A Win in St Pete
Here's what you need to know this week:
On Tuesday, the primary elections for St Petersburg City Council were held. As we reported, our endorsed candidates were:
District 5: Deborah Figgs-Sanders
District 7: Lisa Wheeler-Bowman
We're happy to report that BOTH of these candidates will advance to the general election on Tuesday, November 5th! Thank you to all of you who got out to vote on Tuesday, and remember that we'll need you again in November. Be on the lookout for advocacy opportunities for our union-endorsed candidates in St Petersburg.
Here's what's coming up:
- TONIGHT 8/29, our Florida Future Labor Leaders chapter will meet at 6PM at IBEW 915 (5621 Harney Rd, Tampa). They'll be going over local updates and discussing the details for the statewide meeting in Orlando! This is the official voice for young union members in our Central Labor Council and the FL AFL-CIO, and all young workers are invited to attend. RSVP HERE
- If you're planning for Labor Day (9/2), the St Pete Democrats will be hosting their 11th Annual Labor Day Picnic from 1PM to 5PM at Gladden Park (3901 30th Ave North, St. Petersburg). Card carrying union members get in FREE! For more info, contact Mike Fox at 727-320-4502 or tampabaydemocracy@yahoo.com.
- On Tuesday (9/3), our monthly CLC Meeting will take place at 7PM at IBEW 824 (6603 E Chelsea St, Tampa). Come out and join the discussion on everything going on in our council!
Keep in Mind:
Hurricane Dorian is projected to make landfall in Florida this weekend. Please be sure to take the necessary precautions to keep you and your family safe, as this is currently foretasted to hit as a serious category 2 or 3 storm. Be on the lookout for any changes in plans or events mentioned previously due to inclement weather.
That's all for this week! Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for more updates. If you would like to receive text message alerts from the Florida AFL-CIO (Msg & data rates may apply), text FLUNION to 235246!
In Solidarity,
West Central Florida Labor Council
