Here's what you need to know this week:

Election season is upon us again. This time, we'll be focusing on city council elections in St Petersburg. If you've been following the news, you've seen that elections have consequences, and local elections like these are no different. Those sitting on city council are often the deciding factor on policies that affect the thousands of working people in St Pete. Our CLC, individual unions, and allied community groups have all worked with the city council in the past to pass ordinances which improve the lives of workers or ensure the accountability of their working conditions.

Just as is the case with many other elections in our area, we'll be interviewing candidates for these seats to give our members the opportunity to have a conversation with them and possibly recommend an endorsement. This is one of the first steps in making change at a local level, and we're inviting you to participate!

These candidate screenings will be held on Saturday (7/27) at NALC 1477 (5369 Park Blvd N, Pinellas Park) at 9AM. These are nonpartisan races, and questionnaires have been sent out to ALL candidates in the races being screened.

IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND THE SCREENINGS, PLEASE RSVP USING THIS LINK!

Those who RSVP will be provided with candidate questionnaires and a screening schedule.

Here's what's coming up:

TONIGHT (7/25), our Florida Future Labor Leaders (FFLL) chapter will be holding their July general meeting. The meeting will take place at 6PM at Teamsters 79 (5818 E Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Tampa). FFLL is the official voice for young workers in our CLC and the Florida AFL-CIO, and all young or early career workers are invited to attend. RSVP HERE

- On Monday (7/29), our Florida Alliance for Retired Americans (FLARA) chapter will be holding its annual Medicare/Social Security Birthday Event with Congresswoman Kathy Castor. Every year, FLARA celebrates the birthdays of Medicare and Social Security with various members of congress. Those members that defend these programs are thanked, and those who have an unfavorable voting record are educated and asked to do better. This event will take place at 10AM at Town 'N Country Senior Center (7606 Paula Dr, Tampa), and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.

Keep in Mind:

We're still looking for feedback on our union member survey, so be sure to fill it out and share it around if you haven't already. It won't take more than a few minutes, and it will provide us with valuable insight as to how we can best fight for you.

CLICK HERE to take the survey.

This survey is intended only for members of affiliated unions of the West Central Florida Labor Council.
